The Baakline new mayor, MR Goussainy Abdallah has renovated the commitment of the municipality he represents with the SUDEP-South project. The team of the SUDEP South Support Mechanism visited on Tuesday 18th October the different local projects that are benefiting from the programme.
The new local government officials were introduced to Naceur Hammami, Team Leader of the SUDEP South project SM, that accompanied them to the different locations in order to asses and support the evolution of the implementation process. Different challenges and successes were identified and reported.
Different meetings were held in the city hall, where photovoltaic pannels are being installed funded by SUDEP South. The municipal social center ‘House of Baakline’ was also visited after the installation of the batteries that will compliment the photovoltaic pannels. Four kilometers of the main road of Baakline will be illuminated with energy provenant from this installation.
The SUDEP South team had the opportunity to visit the electric pump supplied with the photovoltaic pannels. This installation with a capacity 32 kW provides enough energy to pump drinking water to the 50 % of the population of Baakline.
The objective of the project is to transform Baakline into Smart City reaching the EU 2020 targets of CO2. The European Union is funding 80 % of the 695 519 Euros that are being invested in in the municipality.
